CGD WordPress Website Redesign

I’ve worked with Colorado Geothermal Drilling first in 2009 on designing a professional website for their growing business. After nearly a decade, CDG had the site redesigned a couple of years ago. They weren’t too happy with the results, however, and contacted me again earlier this fall to polish the look, improve the user experience, and make necessary upgrades on the backend.

The site needed a comprehensive overhaul—it was lacking a cohesive look and message. The design and content needed to be reworked, along with SEO. I took on the challenge and within a month we completed the project.

Improving Performance

We started by cleaning the site up—it was loading super slow. The code was bloated, and there were many—and often unnecessary—plugins installed.

We were able to remove/optimize multiple plugins without sacrificing the functionality of the website.  We also optimized all images and the database.

The performance check showed significant improvement. We decreased page load time by over 60%, page size by nearly 70%, and reduced the number of HTTP requests by over 70%.

Next, we moved on to reworking the content and polishing the look as the site was a bit disorganized and lacked focus.

The most significant changes were around the landing page, of course. Our goal was to convey a clear message of what the company was about and lead visitors in the right direction.

We accomplished that by optimizing the slider, streamlining navigation, focusing on the core message (what, who, how), showcasing work samples, displaying testimonials, and placing call-to-action (CTA) buttons strategically throughout the page/site.

We added a good amount of new content including a lightbox gallery and expanded the footer.

Additionally, we optimized the site for the search engines (SEO work), upgraded PHP, installed an SSL certificate, set up a backup system, and ensured the site is fully responsive/mobile. After a thorough review, the project is now completed!

Thank you for your business, Kari and Dan. Wishing you prosperity and continued success!
